ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS

DAY 01: HANOI ARRIVAL

Arrive in Hanoi. Meet your guide and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 02: Hanoi City Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. 0800 depart for the mausoleum of the historic figure and father of modern Vietnam Ho Chi Minh (closed Mondays and Friday afternoons). Then it’s on to a wooden ethnic minority style house which was his temporary residence from 1954 – 1969.

In the same complex you will see the One Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049. This structure has become an important symbol for the people of Hanoi. Your next stop will be the Temple Of Literature, Vietnam’s first university.  Constructed in 1070, the gardens and well-preserved architecture offer a relaxing glimpse into Vietnam’s past.

The Army, History or National Fine Arts Museum will be visited next, time will only allow for one to be visited so decide which one you would most like to see.Have lunch in one of the city’s finest restaurants before departing to West Lake to one of the oldest Buddhist pagodas in Hanoi, Tran Quoc, and the nearby Toaist temple of Quan Thanh which dates from the Ly Dynasty. Journey back downtown to take a one hour tour by cyclo, a chauffeur-pedalled tricycle, through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, was also known as the ‘36 streets’. This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore, especially by cyclo, with plenty of photo opportunities all around you.

Day 03: Hoa Lu - Tam Coc

Drive through rural northern Vietnam to the site of Vietnam's first capital, Hoa Lu. After visiting the two remaining sanctuaries of the ancient citadel, take a sampan on a river through the rice paddies to the grottoes of the sacred Tam Coc Caves.

Enormous limestone karsts jut out from the green rice fields giving rise to this place's other name, 'Halong on Land'. In the afternoon return to Hanoi.

Day 04: Hanoi - Halong cruise

After breakfast (around 08.00) leave Hanoi for an overnight boat trip on Halong Bay. Journey there through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta, observe everyday life of Vietnamese villagers as they work the rice fields, take pigs to the market on bicycles and plough the fields with their water buffaloes.

Arrive in Halong City late morning and board your traditional, private wooden junk for the overnight journey into the Bay. En-route lunch will be served. Following cruise by rock formations with such names as Sail, Dog and Dinh Huong (incense pot). Towards the end of the day set anchor for the night. As the sun sets over the bay dinner is served on board with fresh seafood, salads, and fruits.

Day 05: Halong Bay - Da Nang - Hoi An

On your return to Halong City enjoy a wholesome brunch as your boat weaves through strange-shaped limestone rock formations. Upon disembarkation your driver will meet you for the transfer back to Hanoi.

Transfer to Noi Bai Airport for the flight to Hue. Be picked up at airport for transfer to hotel in Hue.

DAY 06: Hue City Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart your hotel this morning for your full day tour of Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. A boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River takes you by tranquil settings of gardens and lakes where Hue’s best-known religious sites, the Thien Mu Pagoda and the mausoleum of former Emperor Minh Mang are located. 

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before you continue your tour to the elaborate mausoleums of Emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh and the Imperial Citadel, from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945.

day 07: Hue - Da Nang - Hoi An

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart from your hotel in Hue for Da Nang City via the scenic fishing village of Lang Co and the impressive Hai Van Pass where spectacular views can be enjoyed.

Arrive Hoi An around Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries whose architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years. Take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchants' homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market. Visit ancient house Phung Hung with antique collection.

Day 08: Hoi An - Da Nang- Nha Trang

Transfer to Da Nang Airport for the short flight to Nha Trang. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. .

Day 10: Nha Trang - Da Lat

Depart by private car for Da Lat. Check in hotel and afternoon free at leisure in Da Lat

An afternoon of sightseeing in Dalat takes in Bao Dai's Summer Palace that sits on a hill just outside the main centre. Bao Dai was the Last Emperor of Vietnam and the Palace has been preserved exactly as he left it in 1954. It is a classic example of art deco that is a tourist attraction in itself. Continue the tour with the former Railway Station (in use only for an optional steam train ride) which is remarkable with its architecture and its old steam locomotive, Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Ty Ni Pagoda where a Buddhist monk, Vien Thuc, known also as the ‘mad monk’ for being eccentric produces his abstract paintings and writes poetry. Your will end the tour at the town's bustling central market, renowned for its fresh vegetables and fruit that is rarely found in a tropical country.

Day 12: Da Lat - Ho Chi Minh City

Breakfast at the hotel. You are free until we transfer you to the airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh city: DLI SGN 0840 0930  VN 465. Meet our guide and transfer you to the hotel.

Head to Cholon, nestled only a few kilometres from the centre but distinguished from the rest of the city by its impressive Chinese influence. Discover the markets and shops of the area, and also the many pagodas and temples of Cholon. Visit Binh Tay Market, see the incredible display of fresh produce that is offered and simply stroll through the market seeing and enjoying the variety of goods for sale.One of the most important temples for the locals is the Cantonese built Thien Hau Pagoda, dedicated to the goddess of the Sea; it attracts visitors from all over Asia. On the way back visit a lacquer ware factory, take a cyclo ride weaving through the bustling streets and catch a glimpse of Ho Chi Minh City’s everyday life. 

Following enjoy an included lunch in a traditional Vietnamese restaurant before continuing your tour to the War Museum and the former Presidential Palace. From the palace you will go on foot (your car will be available at all times) to visit the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City including the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Saigon Post Office, Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), the Continental Hotel, Opera House and City Hall. If you wish before heading back to your hotel, explore the trendy boutiques and shops, ask your guide for further details.

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh - Cai Be - Can Tho

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave bustling Ho Chi Minh for the delta town of Cai Be. On arrival board your boat for a cruise of Cai Be floating market. Traders work the river and some have been living on these waters for generations.

Produce at the market are hung on a pole in front of boats to attract customers and make it easier for people to see from afar what is on offer.  After visiting the market continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Then take a chance to visit handicraft village for making rice-net for spring-rolls, cooking salt, sewing coconut-leaves for cottage proof, making fish sause, fermented tofu, soya sauce, handmade products ..and also local activities .

Following take a 10-minute walk through a local village and fruit gardens before coming to a preserved ‘Mandarin’ house. Built centuries ago, at least four generations of the same family have lived here. Mrs. Kiet, the owner of the house will serve you an appetising Vietnamese lunch. Then you enjoy local fruits, tea , traditional music , potteries making and brick kilns …Take a stroll through the family’s fruit orchard before continuing by boat along to the Vinh Long pier. From here transfer to Can Tho where you will spend the night at the Victoria Hotel.

Day 14: Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel take an early departure at 0630 to see the Mekong’s largest floating market, Cai Rang. As in Cai Be hundreds of boats congregate with a piece of fruit or a vegetable attached to a pole at the bow signifying what is for sale on each.

During the early morning market hours, larger sized boats anchor and create lanes that smaller boats weave in and out of. The waterway becomes a maze of hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple and other types of produce. Following head back to Can Tho where you will have time to freshen up before lunch and your return journey to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 15: Ho Chi Minh City - Departure

This morning free and easy on your own leisure until time to transfer to airport for your departure home.
