Phou Si Mountain Pak Ou Caves Pak Ou Caves

DAY 01: Arrive Pakse - Bolaven Plateau

On arrival Pakse, meet with your guide and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon, process on road to Bolaven Plateau, an area of highlands situated to the east of Pakse. Most of this region sits between 1000-1300 meters high and features dozens of coffee and tea plantations. 

The Plateau is also home to various hill tribes, such as Lavens from which the region gets its name.
Stop at Tad Pha Suem, Tad Lo, an area of three separate waterfalls. The first fall is named Tad Hang and it can be seen from the bridge, and the nearby Tad Lo fall is of similar in height. But the most impressive waterfall is the third, Tad Suong.  Located a further 10km upriver, Tad Suong features a stunning drop of crystalline water. (Note: water level may vary accordingly to recent rainfall.)

En route, stop to visit a coffee and/or tea plantation.  The beans grown in this region have become one of the most famous coffees in the world, which is sometimes called the “Champagne of coffee”. Lao coffee is cultivated almost exclusively in the cool fresh air of the Bolovens Plateau by the families who live in its 250 villages.

Day 02: Pakses - 4000 Islands - Wat Phou - Pa

After breakfast, process on road to South most of Laos, then boating on the Mekong River called Si Phan Don or the Four Thousand Islands. This area is one of the jewels of the Mekong, where the river stretches over 14km wide and has thousands of islands between the river banks. The water flows around the islands and forms rapids as it runs down to the Cambodian border. 

You will explore Done Deth and Done Khone, then visit Lippi waterfalls. Impressive is the perfect word to describe these stunning falls wedge between Cambodia, rocs and Don Khone.

Afternoon transfer to Wat Phou, Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Wat Phou is a spectacular pre-Angkorian temple that sits amidst the rice fields and waterways of southern Laos.  The temple was constructed in three levels: the bottom level is focused on the baray (water reservoir) and promenade, the second level features quadrangular pavilions and galleries of carvings, and the top level is the sanctuary itself.  The temple was built by the rulers of the Khmer empire before the construction of Angkor Wat.  The temple served as the most important econ. Then transfer back to Pakse, stop to visit local market along the road

Day 03: Pakse - Vientiane

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Vientiane by domestic flight.

Upon arrival at Vientiane, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel.

day 04: Vientiane

After breakfast, discover the hidden charm of Laos' capital city, Vientiane. Visit tranquil temples, fascinating markets, and colonial buildings.

Take a city tour takes first onto That Luang and its impressive Golden Stupa, the symbol of the nation. Walk to Wat That Luang Neua and Wat That Luang Tai, and then enjoy a panoramic view over the city from the roof of Patuxai, Vientiane’s own “Arc de Triomphe”. Continue down Lane Xang Avenue to Vat Sisaket where hundreds of statues of Buddha are nestled into the surrounding walls of the temple. The last stop is at the just opposite Vat Ho Phra Keo that once sheltered the sacred “Emerald Buddha” that now can be seen in Bangkok at the Royal Palace.
Afternoon, take a 45 minutes car drive to the Buddha Park. On the way you can make a stop and take photos of the Friendship Bridge.
Arrive at Buddha Park, located in a meadow by the Mekong riverside (24 Km south of Vientiane), and observe the collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures. Enjoy a stroll in the park take some pictures of the many different kinds of Buddha, etc.  

End of today stop for 1 hours at a local Spa where professionally trained masseuses will take care of you by using different kinds of techniques and natural products to relieve your tensions accumulated during the day.

Day 05: Vientiane - Luang Prabang

After breakfast, free at leisure till transfer to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang by domestic flight

Luang Prabang is the spiritual capital of Laos, a UNESCO World Heritage City.

Once arrived in Luang Prabang, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel.

Day 06: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Caves

After breakfast, transfer to pier for a cruise up along the Mekong. Located 2 hours upstream of Luang Prabang, Pak Ou Caves count thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues crammed into the two caves carved out of a towering limestone cliff.

They range in size from a few centimeters to the size of a human. The caves are as well a destination for local pilgrimages. On the way to the caves and on the way back, do not miss that Laos has several waterways that has been used in the past and continue to be a way for transportation actually in some area. To use a local boat to cruise a river is probably one of the most rewarding mean to discover the life along the rivers, to observe the daily activities of fishermen and how they live with the river, how they throw their nets in an elegant arm gesture. Return to Luang Prabang by lunch time.

In the afternoon, city tour begins with your guide who will enable you to learn more about this town registered on the World Heritage Patrimony List since 1995.

Your tour starts at the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum. Your walk continues to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief. During Pimai, the lao new year, the Prabang normally housed in the Royal Palace Museum is brought and put on public display in this temple. Then, our walk will conduct us to Wat Sensoukarahm, build in 1718 with its beautiful dazzling golden façade. Finish with the morning visit by the most photographed temple: Wat Xieng Thong. Located at the end of the peninsula, close to the Mekong, this temple has been erected in 1560 by King Setthathirat while the library has been added in 1828.

And end of the day, climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi to enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding countryside and get back to your hotel by the evening hill tribe market where you may find plenty of local souvenirs to buy such as handicraft, textile.

Day 07: Elephant ridding - Trekking

Full day elephant riding and trekking combination tour in the “Elephant Park Project” are just 15Km outside of Luang Prabang. Village visits and soft hiking into amazing country side, to Kamu minority village and the magnificent Tad Sae Waterfall.

After breakfast, 09.00 AM the local guide will pick you up at your hotel, then transfer to the elephant park project for your nature trip.
Lunch will serve either on the magnificent waterfall or on the mountain view of the “Lao Spirit Resort”. Afternoon trekking to the minority village and return to Luang Prabang late afternoon.

Day 08: Luang Prabang and Kuang Si Fall

At your discretion: for early-risers (05h30) there is a very special dawn visit to witness the long lines of orange-robed monks leaving their pagodas to receive offerings of food from Luang Prabang residents. Return to the hotel for breakfast.

In the morning, Wat Visoun, the holiest temple of the city, entirely rebuilt after being destroyed in 1887 by the invading Black Flags from Southern China. In the courtyard of Wat Visoun stands the Watermelon Stupa shaped like the fruit it takes its name from. You will continue by Wat Aham where we can find the altar of the 2 genius of Luang Prabang and then go to Wat That where the ashes of King Sisavang Vong are interred inside the large central stupa.

You will end this morning by visiting the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center (TAEC) that will bring you with plenty of information on ethnic tribes in Laos, one of the richness of lao diversity (closed on Monday). If time permits, on the way to TAEC, a short stop at the Elephant Asia Shows will be a great opportunity for you to learn more of one of the symbol of the country. This outdoor exhibition displays artifacts related to the famous animal.

During the afternoon, you will visit Kuangsi Waterfalls, located at 32 km from Luang Prabang. These waterfalls run through a multilevel limestone formations in the jungle into a series of turquoise blue pools where you may bathing at the foot of the falls if the weather is nice. Kuangsi waterfalls hosts as well the bear center with a purpose of raising awareness for the protection of this endangered specie.

On the way, stop to visit two ethnic villages. If time permitting, stop for a visit at Ock Pop Tock, a shop that aims to preserve textile issues in Laos by working closely with locals.

Day 09: Luang Prabang - Departure
